It is all a matter of choice. I hunt with a SXS 410 and SXS 28ga for Quail and love them both.

I prefer pointing dogs over flushing dogs for quail, Phesants. I like to watch them on point. But get the dog that you like. That is the best dog.

With a limit of 3 birds you need to pick your shots and enjoy HUNTING not killing I hunt Phesants with a 28ga # 6 and just follow my dogs and pick the right shots.

I have Pointers,Setters and GSPs and like them all. Each one is a little different. Find a breed you like and then find a reptable breeder and buy you a pup. The BEST BREED BY FAR is the one you have...
