Both are nice big game rounds, but I would say go with the .338 just because ammo will be a lot easier to get any where with a large selection of bullet weights and styles to select from.

In comparison I'm 5'7" bout 155lbs and manage to shoot my .340 wby with accuracy. There are always good recoil pads you can buy now that work good for reducing recoil. I wouldn't suggest a muzzle...

30-06 should work great. Just use good bullets. Federal makes a 180gr nosler partition HIGH ENERGY load you could try. Practice anduse whatshoots well in your rifle.

I've never shot a 300 wby, but my 340 kicks a lot. I'm just a little guy to, 150lbs 5'7", so that 44lbs is about 1/3 my wieght. I don't have a muzzle brake either, but have thaught of putting one on....
