I bought this rifle 5 month's ago from Gander Mountain. It has only been fired 40 times. Good Shooter. It has a Nikon Monarch (only 5 months old as well) 3X9X40 on top, very clear.

The SuperNova comes with the ComforTech stock. If you will be shooting a lot of 3.5 inch shells it is probably worth the extra bucks. It will take away some of the felt recoil. Check out the benelli...

I believe the .308 would be great for you. I would go with a Remington 700 or a Savage toped with a nice Nikon scope. I believe that would fit into your price range. The Savage would leave more money...

I would get a Savage rifle and spend the rest of your money on a Nikon scope. This setup should shoot very well....You do your part (practice) and you will be set for deer.

If you want a light rifle get the Remington Mountain. My buddy had one and I liked it. Great climbing rifle. If you don't mind a little more weight I would get a Remington CDL it comes with a 24 inch...
