I think you should go with a slate and diaphram for sure, but box calls can also be effective.

Decoys

I usually don't use a decoy for spring hunting and have gotton birds. I was wondering which works better, using a decoy or not.

I agree that the 870 is a good choice and isquite inexpensive, although my favorite is the Browning BPS
