RE: Box Stand

It now has a tin roof and an overhang. Water does not come in at all. It has turf carpet on the floor, thermometer, comfortable chairs, and the rubbery stuff you use to line cabinet drawers covering...

RE: Box Stand

Here's one I built a couple of years ago. I've since treated the wood on it and it's a great place to hunt, particularly when you have extra people along for the fun. This one is 4'x8'.

RE: Anyone take big deer every year?

I usually shoot a good buck annually and would chalk it up to a variety of things with the least important being my own personal hunting skills. Mostly you need to be hunting somewhere that is...

RE: whats your opinion of the 7mm 08

Given the choice, I prefer something a bit larger but there's no doubt a 7mm-08 is a fine caliber. It's particularly nice for someone that isn't very recoil tolerant. Recoil isn't a big deal to me as...

RE: ho to improve my hunting land?

It's hard to make a water hole when there's no water source there now other than to drill a well and make a pond. I don't think that would be a priority to me. Drilling for ponds in arid areas (like...

RE: perminat stands

Here's one a built a couple of years ago. I do like tower stands though with most of mine being the metal ones you buy some place. I guess you could say they are "perminat", but since they can be...

RE: How do deer know there kin? Do you shoot nub bucks?

How do they know their kin? Scent, I 'm sure. Most does run in family groups of multiple generations. It's interesting to watch as another family group comes into a food plot when a different one is...

RE: How do deer know there kin? Do you shoot nub bucks?

Shoot all the young bucks if you need to keep your buck/doe ratio deficient and you want to make sure you won't see older bucks later on.

RE: ho to improve my hunting land?

Managing property for hunting is my passion and I think you can enjoy a lot of satisfaction from doing it right over time. The size of this tract does limit some of what you can do, but depending...

RE: Decided on a .270...now what make?

The best shooting gun off the rack that I've found is a Blaser R93. The trigger is amazing, not to mention the fact that it can be whatever caliber your various hunting needs might require. If that...

RE: Are Food Plotts important to seing deer?

Generally I would say that I don't, thoughI still hunt them there a lot. First of all, I don't put a lot of pressure on my place, so the deer aren't as skittish around plots as they might be at some...

RE: Cut corn question

After the corn has been picked for a while much of whatever ended up on the ground has been eaten while what is left has likely spoiled or soured after rains. Corn that is standing and still in the...

RE: Are Food Plotts important to seing deer?

Food plots can be a huge advantage if you like to see a lot of deer, though the amount of activity in them you'll see by older bucks during daylight hours will be small except around rut.
I plant...

RE: land owner part 2

I do a hunt every year for about 10 US Marines that I invite to a hunt as my way of saying "thanks" to them for their service to our country. I let them all shoot a doe when they come. Before the...

RE: Do all deer feed at the same time?

Deer certainly don't all feed at the same time, but it is amazing how there is something going on that tends to make certain points in timewhen deer movement generally begins or ends. It can be dead...

RE: Here's one I got yesterday

Yes, it's a just a blind that I built. You can barely see it in that deer pic. It overlooks 2 dfifferent corn patches and a clover patch, so there's usually something happening when you sit here....

RE: Here's one I got yesterday

Thank you very much, 2robinhood. I shot him at my farm in Southwest Georgia. We're in pre-rut now and he showed up in a corn patch several minutes after a doe did.
At first I wasn't planning to...
