RE: Canada Geese & Alfalfa

The alfalfa field we hunt isn't nearly as productive as the corn around it, but when the migration is rolling hard the alfalfa is actually easier to decoy to. Not really sure why, perhaps there is...

RE: question about chesapeakes

My brother raises chessies (I prefer brits), and his dogs are all well behaved and much loved members of the family. What we've seen with training is that a harsh word gets a chessie to feel bad...

RE: Re-introducing Scaled Quail to an area

Haven't worked with scalies, but the gambels we have missed on my place after training have started to build quite a covey- think they may rebel and the wife and I might have to either move or call...

RE: SW Quail Organizations

I guess my biggest concern is that the southwest has been ignored by PF (understandably- there aren't really any wild pheasants to speak of)and does not have people in place to promote QF. I work for...

SW Quail Organizations

With the upstart of Quail Forever, wondering who best promotes southwest quail habitat. We have QU, Western Gamebird Alliance (who aren't taking anynew members...whatever) and now QF. Looking for any...

RE: Strange happenings

The only experience I've had like that is my retired brit (very arthritic and VERY grouchy) attacking my wife's female boxer. He has always been a very dominant dog in my kennel, but had never...

RE: Acrylic or Polycarbonate

I like the acrylic better for geese, too. It seems like I get better projection and volume from the acrylic than the pc.

RE: never goose hunted

EJ-

Loveland is very close to some great hunting. I wuold recommend six floaters and six full bodies, then hit some of the State Game Areas along the Poudre and the South Platte. I actually live...

RE: What Western state?

For elk, New Mexico is my number one- that's part of the reason I live here, then Arizona (Kaibab Plateau).

RE: How many feedings a day?

Doc-

Thanks for the info. Based on posts I've seen by you over the years, I hold your opinions and citations of studies in high regard. I'm going to try the lowered food stations.

RE: How many feedings a day?

I have (maybe) been under the wrong assumption that an elevated feed station was preferrable. What is the research suggesting about serving from a lower position?

RE: training hunt today

How whoa broke is he? Is he dead on and staunch or does he creep on you? My youngest started creeping as he hit about the 20th bird mark. I sort of attributed it to being like a hot headed teenage...

RE: Duck Blind Ideas...

I use a canoe a lot, too. Another option is going with a stack of slash. You pile it up for the hunt, then spread it out until next time. This seems to keep other folks out of my blinds. The last...

RE: how many pheasants do you kill in a season?

I used to measure my season by the number of days I limited, or how many days I took a mixed bag limit. Much like itsmyturtle, I go out to work with my dogs. I spent three weeks back in my home state...

RE: chukar recipes?

Anything you can do with a pheasant will also work with a chukar. One of my personal faves: Marinate cubed and chunked meat in mixture of (cheap) tequila, ground red chile, lime juice water. Grill...

RE: How do you pluck your birds?

Another benefit of using the vac sealer is the ability do a quick marinade, as well. Lot's of bennies, the only drawback is the price of bag material.

RE: How do you pluck your birds?

The magic fingers drill is... let's just say we all make stupid purchases. I end up "peeling" most of my birds and then vacuum sealing them. I know that with the gambels quail i hunt that this can...
