I have a similar rifle / scope set up as yours. The talley steel bases with medium rings have a combined height of .700 inches from the bottom of the base to the bottom of the ring where it contacts...

Kenny Jarrett's rifles sell for thousands.. he doesnt skimp.. will only use talleys.. i once saw one of his rifles.. very nice.

It is not longer is being ported... with the 450 marlin you will get about 2050 fps with 350 grainers in factory ammo.. exceeding the 45/70 by about 300 fps using standard factory ammo.

I don't see many custom gun makers using Conetrols. I do see them using Talley's .. guys like Kenny Jarrett, Dave Tooley. The Burris Rings will slip with the big kickers. The dual dovetails are good...
