Gas-checks

I've been looking at hard cast bullets for my heavy +P 45 Colt loads and noticed that some of the bullets have gas-checks and some don't. What are the advantages of gas-checks, and should I be...

I'm planning on reloading for my Ruger New Model Blackhawk 45 Colt and figured I'd ask what components you guys would recommend. I'll be making one load for grizzly protection/ big game hunting and...

RE: Which one should I buy?

Thanks for the input. I ended up ordering a Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt with the 4 5/8" barrel this afternoon (decided I'd rather go with the 45 instead of the 44). Should be a fun gun. Hopefully it'll...

I've been looking at pistols for quite some time now and I think I've finally got it narrowed down to two guns that fit my budget. I'll be using the gun for target shooting, backpacking in cougar and...

S&W 686

I found a used S&W 686-6 with the 6" bbl today for $495. It's in great shape and hasn't been fired enough to cut the top strap at all yet. Is that a good price for this gun? Or could I find a better...

RE: 7mm & Big Game

The 7mm Rem Mag is a great gun for elk and deer. As far as which bullet you should use, I'd bet more elk are taken with cheap soft points than any other bullet (I use 150gr GameKings), so any of the...

RE: 223 or 243

Buying a new set of .243 dies won't cost that much. If you've already got a .223 and want a gun that can handle deer as well as varmints, the .243 is the only logical choice IMO.

RE: Montana Mule Deer Gun ?

Any one of those 3 will work fine. I'm partial to the 7mm Rem Mag, but I'd say take whichever gun you shoot best with, and maybe take along the gun you shoot 2nd best with as a back-up.

RE: Gun for wolf?

I plan on using a .243 now that they're legal in WY. A 270 wouldn't be a bad idea either, though. The can get pretty big.

Compromise and go for laminate. It still looks and feels good but withstands atmospheric changes better than wood.;)

RE: Is it worth it?

I'd say it's a good deal. If the scope is worth $530, and everything is new, figure $650-530= $120. And if the rings and bases are a good brand, that's at least another $40. So you're getting a brand...
