Used the FFF 777 in derringers, pistols, rifles... #11s fire it up just fine. If anything, you should get faster/better ignition with the finer grade.

First PRB deer! (Graphic)

Some years back, I found a .45 CVA "Frontier" rifle at a local pawnshop for $60. It was a kit-gun that the previous owner had never finished.

I added a few missing parts, some 'medicine' tacks...

First-off, I will apologize to all of those who were hoping to see dead chipmunk pictures. Couldn't find any in Central Texas, even though I hunted for days. I will, however show some holes in paper!...

RE: KY. long rifle, what to shoot?

My .45CVA Kentucky has the 1:48 twist and shoots the TC Maxi-balls very well.

If you try this projectile, I'd start with abt 50 gns of FFF and work up.

I use to get almost 1600 fps with...

Used the Hornady .40 XTPs in a .45 on a Javelina and a cull-buck.

Boom-Flops both. Good expansion, deadly.

Longest shot was abt 65 yds for the buck.

I see that you're using cast-balls. I'd read that swaged balls often tighten up grouping, as they are less prone to have unseen voids etc.

RE: 44 cap & ball question

You need a chronograph.

MV x MV x Ball weight in grains

Divide the above by 450,240 for foot-lbsmuzzle energy.

Cheaper than a chrony, get a book that lists loads and velocities.
