well, if your looking at a good gun for both and remotly cheap i would go with a 223, 243, or a 25-06 if your looking at going after bigger game than whitetail as well, then i would go with a 270 or...

catfish is some good eating. just like any "wild game" its all in how you prepare it. it would probably be 3rd on my list of fish, with the first to a toss up between walleye and fresh perch pulled...

if you do go with a semi auto i wouldnt go with a tube or cylinder feed. i would go with a clip/magazine. my marlin 22 with the tube , .22 rounds dont go through it the best. it doesnt always eject...
