I prefer to be inside of 25 yards but I'm confident out to 35 yards. To me bow hunting is more about getting the animal as close as possible without getting busted. I shot deer with a gun for years...

My advise as someone who is entering their 2nd season as a bow hunter.

Never take a shot unless you are 100% confident you can make that shot.

You should have stayed in your tree stand for longer than 30 minutes.

It sounds like you definately rushed it by 4-5 hours. Be more patient next time.

I hunted all day Thursday and saw a ton of does and BB's but no shooters. A 82 yer old from my camp shot a 9 pt. Small rack but big body. I hope I'm still hunting at 82.

I started last season and also saw lots of deer last year within 30-100 yds and did not shoot with my bow.

This season on my first day out I shot a doe. I have had other opportunities this year...
