RE: over analyzing caliber

Good post - I completely agree.

My only nit-pick - - make that about 100 year old and I wouldn't have anything at all to quibble over.[&:]

RE: accuracy of a gun

I don't know about 'built' - that depends on specific gun, but this action was designed more than 100 years ago - the 98 refers to 1898! Truely an amazing design!

RE: cops jack a deer

Hope they get the max the law allows for...

Another thing - even if they hadn't illegally killed a deer, they still should be fired. If they were on duty, they certainly weren't doing thier...

Yes, I'm positive the Lee will accept your RCBS dies.

Just my opinion, but I think the RCBS rock crusher is a stronger, more durable press than the Lee...

RE: Reloads More accurate?

Hi mrwake

It seems to me that you left out an important detail in your original question... what level of accuracy are you getting with the factory ammo you are using? If you are getting 1/2 moa...

RE: Accuracy VS "on game performance"

In my experiance handloading is "all about" whatever my requirement is. If I am loading for hunting, I am going to start with a bullet that is appropriate - a hunting bullet chosen based on a number...

RE: Reloading Kit or Not?

At some point you might want to pick up one of the vibrators for cleaning your brass.

RE: Sling?

Sure, they can be added - it's not particularly difficult, but if your not comforatble doing it, a gunsmith should be able to help you out (I don't know for sure, but it doesn't seem like something...

RE: Doctors and Guns

Maybe doctors need to use "safer" tools - like dull scalpels, and diluted medications;)

RE: Is Poaching Okay???

As some others have said, I don't think the choice "poach or starve" is realistic situation. If, and it's a big IF, it ever really did come down to that choice - yes, I would poach. It would still...

RE: Anybody have any tips for shooting offhanded?

Just a little point - If you do a lot of practicing with a .22, make sure you are using a form that is approp. to high-power hunting (if that's your goal). For example: if you practice with a form...

RE: What type of Handgun?

A personal protection (by that I assume you mean carrying it) semi-auto, that is also appropriate for hunting. Hmmmm - that seems like a bit of a stretch for a single gun. My advise would be to not...

RE: Handload vs. Factury load.

Seems like you have 4 choices:

1) see if you can find some shop (do some searching on the net) that still has the discontinued ammo - if you find any, buy it all.

2) try various factory...

RE: Need advise on stock refinishing

I agree with the general opinion - probably better off re-finishing the whole thing.

The main thing with the checkered areas is to avoid getting too much finish in the grooves. If doing a...

RE: 30-40 Kraig

I've got one, but not interested in parting with it - sorry!

I do love that slick working action - smoothest bolt action I have ever worked!

RE: .44 Mag

I don't think they are going to hurt your barrel, but I do question whether they will have anything like an effective range for squirrels. My guess is that they won't give you an effective pattern...

RE: Starter Reloader

I would suggest one of the single-stage "kits" available. I am sure any of the major brands (RCBS, Lee, Lyman, etc) will do the job for you. I, personally, would stay away from the low-end presses...

RE: newbie in CA

Hi Jimbo

I'm a CA'ian too - sometimes embarrassed to admit it, but it's true.

As to the hunter saftey course, don't sweat it. Ceder has it right - just pay attention and you'll do fine.

RE: Curiosity (never reloaded, totally clueless)

Hard to beat that! Having someone show you the process will take a lot of the mystery out of it.

I would still recommend getting a maual (or two) to get a "best practices" approach. Along...
