I use my sling exactly as Hiawatha does...it really helps for stability when no rest is available. I walk a long way into my hunting area, but I only shoulder my rifle when walking out after dark...

It really doesn't hurt when lifting. I feel a little twinge of pain when doing upright dumbell pushes, but nothing to slow me down. I have backed off the weight just in case on my shoulder...
