Yeah, if given a budget I would go with the Tikka and a nice scope over a Sako and crappy glass any day of the week. But, since no budget was given, I'd shoot for the moon and go Sako AND nice...

I sat in my stand and watched a large, atypical 13-pointer for almost 10 minutes while he was only 85 yards away despite having a gun in my hand. Unfortunately for me, that was a Ruger Super...

Marlin 336 in 30-30 and a Savage 99 in .300 Savage.

Both work really, really well on deer.

RE: .270 Ammo??

Federal Fusion 130 grain shoots great in my rifle, and has resulted in 3 one-shot, not tracking needed kills in the last two deer seasons.

RE: Minnesota gun hunters how did you do

I got a 5x4 buck that weighed over 200 pounds field dressed and a mid-sized dow with a bonus tag that will be fine eating.

Both shot on opening day.

RE: Ruger 10/22 beginner

.22 rifles are usually a little finicky about what ammo they like. Your best bet is to re-barrel it, free float the stock, put in a target hammer and increased power spring, and then go out and shoot...

RE: Federal Fusion vs. Core-Lokt's

I have killed some deer with both. The Fusion 130 grain bullets are accurate out of my .270, so they got the nod last year. The deer died just the same as the one killed with the Core-lokt bullet the...

My Leica is much nicer than the Bushnell I used to have. The display is visible in darkness, it is lighter, and it is very accurate.

RE: Deer Rifles?

Go with the advice of shooting as many as you can. I was prepared to buy a bow in the 600+ dollar range, but I shot the Reflex Excursion the best, so I gought that for less than half the price. :)
