I shot the Nosler ballistic tips back when you had to reload 'em, and now that Winchester has the ballistic silvertip, I shoot those. They group really well in my .30-06 and I've shot deer at ranges...

If your shots are going to be under 200 yds ... you might consider a .30-30. The Marlin 336 is a great one and won't kill your budget. It's a light kicker, and kills deer dead ........ good luck!

I've used them (first in handloads and recently in factory fodder) for nearly 20 years. I've NEVER had a deer go more than 20 steps after being shot and they usually fall where they stand....

I've got an old Marlin M336 and love it .... shot a ton of deer with it, it's never jammed, and I just like the feel better than the Winchester. It fits me better, but I think either would be fine.

Both are great whitetail rounds, but if you're ever considering chasing something larger than deer, I'd go with the .308. The heavier bullet weight can be an asset sometimes ....

2. NEF Handi-rifle, pick your caliber

To stubblejumper, one of the problems is that most folks can't hit a barn much past 300 yds and would swear it was really 500. Paces and yards are two different things, not enough people use laser...
