RE: Setting up a tree stand for Northern IL

The preseason excitement is part of the hunting experience. When I stop feeling like a kid I may stop all together. Make sure you eliminate as much odor as possible from your person. Then even if the...

RE: Blaze Orange in a Treestand

I have to agree with ddejong. Like hunters and deer, by the time you are dealing with a CPO, it's too late. Even if you don't get fined, your day is ruined. Rules are rules, even if they suck they...

RE: Illinois Hunters...What County??

You should feel good. I live in McHenry and hunt in Edwards. I'm wishing for a closer spot since gas is so high. Haven't figured how to bring a deer back by motorcycle.

RE: Deadfall for racoon

Thanks for all the input. I'm sorry I didn't do my homework first. Deadfall traps are illegal in IL also. The bait I would use would exclude cats (they won't touch hashbrowns). No dogs loose in our...

Deadfall for racoon

Has anyone tried catching racoon in deadfall traps? I am starting to build one and am looking at a 60# steel plate for the deadfall (small package). They are pretty tough. Will this be heavy enough?...

RE: Anyone know anything about the 204 Ruger

I'm thinking about the .204 for a varmint (read coyote) rifle. It is really hot, I would be worried about hitting bones, etc. Howler is right about the rounds available for the .204. I think if I had...

RE: First Buck w/ Bow

Congratulations on your first. I have yet to get a buck with a bow but I got my first doe with a bow last month. I just finished my third batch of jerky. No recipe, just go through the cupboard/frig....

Check the "What's your favorite 'yote buster" post. It has some good info & pics. I am looking into a coyote rifle too.

RE: what is your favorite yote buster???

Thanks for the answers. I am also thinking of the H & R/ NEF single shot rifles. I will try to sell the pelts if I find a buyer. It's IL so using the rifle for deer is not an option. It's more fun...

RE: what is your favorite yote buster???

Is .25-06 too much for coyote? I'm thinking of this or a .223. Where I'm deer hunting has alot of coyote's. I'd like to thin them out some.
