RE: Official Rut Thread

The full moon has the deer moving strictly nocturnal right now. Although I did take a nice 7 point buck Tuesday around 3:15 pm. He was making a b-line straight for a scrape no more than 10 yards from...

RE: does a no moon effect deer like a full does?

From my experiences, usually a new moon is the best time to hunt. The deer tend to move a lot during the morning and late evening. I have seen deer moving till about 11:00am and start moving again...

RE: Who's still shooting aluminum?

I shoot aluminum also. Thought about switching to carbon a year or so ago but decided that the price wasn't worth it to me. Aluminum arrows kill just as good as carbon arrows do and are less...

RE: full moon

From my experiences, deer usually move late morning to early afternoon during a full moon. During a new moon, they tend to move most of the morning and evening.

RE: hunting on sunday

Yeah no Sunday hunting sucks big time. There were a few seasons where I missed entire weeks of bowhunting because of work. The biggest hurdle for Sunday hunting in PA is that the majority of private...

RE: the Dream Season ? puked my guts out

Well when a show is putting more emphasis on wearing scent lok clothing then the actual hunt, then there is something wrong. You are putting the product before everything else. Scent control is...

RE: Couple questions for "Trophy" hunters

ROFL! I practice the same thing.

I am one of those middle of the road hunters. We, meaning my dad and I, hunt on public game lands. We pretty much take any deer we see because getting a deer...

RE: the Dream Season ? puked my guts out

Hey all, don't post very often but had to put in my two cents also. Caught the second season of dream season last night and was absolutely digusted with amount of emphasis put on wearing scent lok...

RE: Don't expect better buck hunting in PA

I posted this on the Hunting Politics forum, but I guess I will post this here too. For you PA hunters unhappy with Alt's deer management plan, check this site out:...

RE: PA deer season

I wish I knew where some of you western PA guys are hunting, because down here in Fayette and Greene counties the big talk has been that no one is seeing any deer. So far this season I have seen...

RE: A stupid people season?

Haha. That is almost as bad as people who buy a new rifle for rifle season the night before opening day.

RE: to stabilize or not to stabilize

I don't use one and have had no problems whatsoever. The main reasons I don't use one is because I really don't see the need and I don't want the extra weight on the bow.

RE: PA HUNT CLUB DON'T JUST LOOK TYPE SOMETHING

This is something that has really been getting me upset for the past 20 years. Here in southwestern PA you have to hunt on all the public lands because most farmers won't let anyone hunt on their...

RE: Package Bows

I agree with what everyone says. Make sure that the bow you get is setup for you. But also remember this, bowhunting is 90% mental and 10% equipment. Get the bow setup for you and just practice as...

RE: A little more fuel for the camo comparison fire.....

I use Realtree Advantage HD camo. It is not very good for the early part of the season, but once those leaves drop, it works pretty good. But, as one poster stated, it all comes down to how much...

RE: Problem with anti-hunters

Yeah they are kind of amazing. They actually spread some of kind poison in forests where they knew hunters with dogs would be so the dogs would die from eating the stuff. Talk about contradictions...

RE: using scent

I don't think it is necessarily that they aren't afraid of human scent, but more of how much or how strong the scent is. I have had deer walk down the same trail that I just walked down an hour...

RE: Neat things that happen

That is really cool to experience something like that. That is one of the main reasons I enjoy bowhunting. I see so many things when out in the woods. Last year, I had a sow and her 3 cubs walk by...

RE: chew in the stand?

From the experiences my friends have that chew, it has never been a problem. IMO, deer are more curious about smells than they are spooked by them(except human and predator, of course). My dad...

RE: Evening Deer/Morning Deer

For me, it has always depended on where I was hunting. There have been seasons where I would only see deer in the morning from the stand. Then I would only see deer in the evening from a different...

RE: Baiting and big bucks

It is illegal in Pennsylvania to bait deer during the hunting season, although you can bait them until a month before the bow season. But I know some people that bait anyways during the season and...

RE: Tree stand height

I honestly think you should hunt with what you are most comfortable with. I only have my stand to about 10' to 12' from the ground and have shot and missed plenty of deer from that height at about...

I have to agree. I usually watch a lot of hunting shows, but only as something to watch during the offseason. ...
