I had setup 2 stands in thick stuff...

Where did you hunt that you had that much snow on Oct 11th? I was near Salida myself and when I shot my bull on Oct 11th it was in the 50's.

There are several methods to preserve the skin. You can wet tan it, or dry preserve. If you want a quality mount that will last a long time, I would suggest wet tanning it. Better yet, send it off...
