The 45/70 is a blast to reload for there are so many options from light plinking loads to tooth shaking ones! I use a 350 grain hornady flat point on top of 56 grains of 3031 in my guide gun drops...

Tikka T3 may run you a shade over 500 that would be my vote but the savage package rifles are a very decent shooting gun and cant be beaten for the price.

Thanks for the quick reply's, when I take the mag out the bolt doesn't lift up high enough to lock into the chamber and if I put my finger underneath it it works just fine.

I like to use 56 GR of 4350 behind a 150 grain nosler ballistic tip ragged holes at 100yards! Another favorite is a hornady 165 GR btsp with max load of 4350groups MOA as well

With 56.0 grains of 3031 behind a HDY 350JFP this this was shooting sub MOA at 50 yards with the skinner sights. Thanks to those who suggested the lee factory crimp die consistent starting pressures...

Thanks for the reply bronko, I have been putting a roll crimp on the cartridges I have loaded thus far and my groups are all over the place, someone suggested I use one of these dies on the .45-70.

45/70 Reloading Problem?

I just started loading for my 45/70 Guide Gun and I put the first 10 cases through the sizing die and they came out with little indentations all the way around the case about a 1/4 of the way down....

Had a remington 700 .308 and it seemed to like the 150 grain loads best. Great all purpose round, the handloaded 150 grain ballistic tips are tack drivers.

Experiment With a few differnt boxes, get a feel for the rifle and then choose your ammo based on results generally all the over the counter 150,165 grain loads are good for deer in the .30-06.
