RE: Hook ups

Wow, don't know about you guys, but a gal with a 3rd degree assault on her record sounds like a hottie to me!!!! I would most definitely want to hook up with that. :D

RE: well it happened

^^^^What he said. People get so hung up on bigger is better. A 30-06 will take about any big game. The only reason I would ever consider using a 338 or 375 would be if Griz were in the area, then you...

RE: 30-06 bullet weight on elk

I have a 30-06 and I shoot 180 & 220 core lokt's out of it and do well with both. Don't spend tons of money on noseler's etc. I just shot a moose with a 220 core lockt last week and it dropped right...

RE: 525 lb. Bruin @ 30 yrds w/Slick Trick Broadhead - Photos

Ummm, 525lbs???? How did he measure? I shot a black bear last spring that was 6'5" and was 300 lbs max. Not to call bs, but that thing looks no where near 525.

RE: Moose Hunting

Hey AK, I just got back from hunting unit 14c (Ship Creek Drainage) and blasted a 40 inch bull. Sounds about the same size. Hunt was from 6th-15th and up until last Friday, no one else had gotten one...

RE: tipping your guide

I want to throw in a wrinkle to hear others opinions. Does the tip depend on bagging game/fish or not?

I have gone on a couple of guided fishing trips, actually one just a couple of weeks ago,...

RE: Uphill / Downhill shooting

I don't think that's what we meant, you just guestimate distance and pitch. But the truth is, IT IS a different shot than a flat one. It is just something that with experience, different shots will...

RE: Uphill / Downhill shooting

TXHunter and CalNewbie are correct, shooting at steep angles either up or down will cause your bullet to strike high. It is basic geometry and physics, hypotenuse of a triangle = less distance =...

RE: 338 Mag not enough for Brown Bears

Oh man, I am originally from CO to and I now reside in Anchorage. I am from Littleton. Isn't Trinidad where they do all those sex changes? [:'(]

Welcome to the boards.

RE: which group to hunt with

Amen, the experience is more important than the kill IMHO. The kill makes it that much better, but I remember the experience and hanigng out with friends.

RE: Biggest Black Bear

I think people are getting scores and actual measurements mixed up. There is no way a black bear skull is measuring 19 inches!!!!! The world record, according to Boone & Crocket is 14 12/16 length...

You are right, I get in the bad habit of using Griz and Brown interchangeably. DM, you still live in AK?

RE: Alaska Blackie

No, Kenai Peninsula technically, but not far from Anchorage. On our trip we also saw a Brown Bear at about 600 yards. :(. Not till fall for that bad boy. He was probably between 8 and 8 1/2 foot. ...

RE: 338 Mag not enough for Brown Bears

While I have heard stories about shooting a brown bear with a 338 and it still being alive the next day, it is still a great bear gun. The 375 is a better choice, but a 338 is still good. Has more...

This is a good thread and even better responses. There are so many factors, pain threshold, caliber, grain, recoil pad, etc. I would have to agree, find the right mix between enjoyable to shoot...

RE: Best Grizzly "medicine" under 60 yards?

I agree, I would take the 45-70 anyday (even over a .44 or .454), but since that was not one of your choices, I would take the 12 ga. with slugs. 3 inchers for good measure.

Alaska Blackie

Just got back from black bear hunting in Southcentral Alaska and bagged a decent one, about 6'2". What was cool was he had a big melon and huge paws. Although small ears can be an indication of a...
