RE: Bird Flu

Just wondering if any waterfowlers have heard anything from their state or provincial wildlife departments if duck/goose hunting will be cancelled to reduce the spread of bird flu into the general...

RE: Getting back to bowhunting

I'll see what the various shops quotes me - if it is significant, I'll probably go the new bow route, otherwise, probably stick with what I have.

RE: Getting back to bowhunting

I'll probably go for white tail/mule deer and black bear at first, but hoping to do caribou, elk and moose eventually. I prefer the spot and stalk but tree stands are not out of the question.

Getting back to bowhunting

Decided after a 12 year absence from bowhunting to get back into the sport, partly to extend my hunting season and partly because my bro-in-law and nephew are getting into the sport.

I have two...

RE: Light 45-70 loads?

Hi, you might want to check out MarlinOwners.com. A lot of good knowledge there and a lot of discussion about the various loads available.

RE: Mild Yet Adequate Deer Rifle

You had fun with the 30-30 so why not go with Marlin's 336C lever action rifle in 35 Remington?

It shoots further than the 30-30 (up to 150 - 200 yards) and the recoil is quite tolerable. Also...

RE: Sako vs. Browning

I'd pass on the Sakos - don't feel like supporting a company that let defective barrels on the market and handled the situation poorly. Do a search for Sako barrel blowups.

Browning makes a...

RE: The best rifle for deer?

In the scenario you outlined initially, consider a lever action such as the Marlin 336 in 35 Remington - good to 200 yards. I wouldn't worry about 400 yard shots as how often are you going to get...

RE: Alberta Unit 438 Question

Lot of grizzlys and black bears in the area so don't go undergunned - gunshots are like dinner bells to them. .30-06 would be the minimum and 180 grain and up in premium bullets such as Nosler...

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.

Another vote for the Tikka T3 - they leave the factory with a 1 inch grouping at 100 yards guarantee.

RE: 6.5 x 55 Swede.... I'm weakening

Got to agree with jmfa1957. Up here in Canada, Norma ammo can be had for the equivalent of $20-24 USD. You owe it to the game you hunt to use good quality ammo, not the cheap hunter specials...

RE: want to buy a good flat shooting accurate caliber

What ranges do you expect to be doing your shooting at?

Where do you hunt deer? Open country? Bush? or ?

Which deer do you hunt? White tail, Mule, Elk, Moose?

Does a lot of recoil...

Best Goose Calling Instruction Tapes/Videos/DVDs?

I've had some new hunters ask me for recommendations on good instruction tapes/videos/DVDs for goose calling. What do you suggest?

Thanks for your replies,

RE: guns

I've hunted with a Browning BPS with 3 inch chamber, 28 inch barrel with screw-in chokes for 22 years and haven't noticed the need for 3.5 inch shells. I use mostly 2.75 inch shells with bismuth or...

RE: hey everyone i am looking for a new rifle

Consider 6.5x55 Swedish - with the right bullet you can take anything from varmints to moose. Mild recoil, accurate. Winchester has rifles in this chambering.

RE: VINTAGE BOLT ACTIONS (NAGANT 7.65X54R OR MAUSER 8MM) AND WHY

RE: could use some input about a-bolts ?

I have a left hand Stainless Stalker in .30-06 that is quite accurate when I've done my part. As for scoping your new acquisition, I'll defer to the more experienced varmint hunters on this board.

RE: I did a bad, bad thing.....

Good choice, once you try it out, you'll wonder why you didn't get one before. You might also want to get an extra magazine or two at Wholesale Sports who still carry them.

Tikka T3 magazine reliability

Hi,

For the Tikka T3 owners out there, have you had any reliability problems with the polymer magazine the T3 comes with?
