I went by the lumber yard yesterday. There was some beautiful red oak 1"X3"X10 ft boards. I looked through the boards and found 3 that are cut right to make board bows. However, they will need to...

RE: long or recurve

The big difference used to be in the handle shape, hand shock, and arrow speed. But with modern hybreds, there is really no difference. Long bows now have pistol grips, reflex/deflex limbs, center...

RE: traditional bowhunting ..

About 5 or 6 threads down is a post "I wanna go trad, but how do I get started". There is a lot of good information in the thread.

However, I would like to answer your question on shooting...

RE: wood recomendations..

How does the walnut show up under clear glass? Is it a pretty wood for the limbs? Also, what wood looks good for the riser (handle) with walnut limbs? Are Chekmate bows rated for fast flight...

RE: Help Needed

Does your state have a minimum poundage for hunting bows? You might be better off having the poundage shown at 28 inches, which will be about 5 to 6 pounds more than 26 inches.

RE: I wanna go trad too...but where do I start??

I went to a traditional archery tournament that had several stalking targets. Before the tournament started you were given a set of rules and told to read them. In the rules, it said to shoot only...

RE: I wanna go trad too...but where do I start??

Everything that Cajun said is good advice. If you can, go to an all traditional shoot. Try to find a large one advertised in a traditional archery magazine. There will be several traditional bow...

The good old days

I saw Ben Pierson at a Boy Scout Jamboree when I was 12 years old. His assistant tossed ping pong balls in front of hay bales and Ben would shoot them in mid-air. I can remember it today as if it...

RE: Recurve Question

Also, a longer bow decreases finger pinch.

Bryon does a good job in his book. But don't get hung up on "the proper way" to shoot a bow. Traditional archery is supposed to be fun, not a job. ...

RE: Cedar arrers

Here is a good arrow straighter. Cut about 8 inches off a broom handle. Drill a hole in the end and screw in an I bolt. Cut the I bolt with bolt cutters so the finished bolt looks like a ? mark. ...

RE: Does A Recurve Need Any Special Care?

Just wipe with a damp cloth to clean it. Keep it out of direct sun light and do not let it get above 120 degrees (ie, do not shut it up in a car on a hot summer day), use a bow stringer, and do not...

RE: Three fingers under or split-finger method?

I started out split finger. But now, I shoot 3 under. When I shoot split fingers, I usually develop blood blisters along the finger nails from string pinch. I always put a metal nock on the bow...

RE: FAUSTI SHOT GUNS

I own two Fausti Traditions O/U shotguns. One in 12 ga and one in 410. The 12 ga has been very reliable/dependable. You can order parts from the US distributor. I ordered an extra set of chokes...

RE: Scope delima, cheap vs expensive

I have always thought the important thing was scope clarity. I would purchase a clear cheap scope, about $80. But no more. I have had two cheap scope failures in the last two years. Rifle recoil...

RE: gettin started old skool?

I almost forgot to mention, try to match your draw length to your bow length. The shorter the bow, the more string pinch which causes bad releases and blood blisters If your draw length is 28...

RE: gettin started old skool?

If you are used to shooting a compound, you will probably find a recurve bow more comfortable to shoot because of the grip. Longbows have a straight grip and string slap becomes more of a problem. ...
