RE: Oryx hunting

I checked into it when I was in N.M. last year. What I was told by an old-timer is that you're required to use the services of a guide. Even if it's not required by law, it's a good idea.

RE: wow you reloaders

Dayyyyum, 1mile50! I'm going to print off that picture and hang it on my "wish wall" in the puny, ill-lit, ergonomically incorrect corner of my shop where I do all of my handloading. That's a...

RE: Charles Daley Shotguns Revisted

I have been looking seriously at the Charles Daly o/u's. So after I read this thread, I looked up their warranty policy (thank you, 1shot). The only thing in the policy that gives me pause is the...

RE: Hornady A-max or V-max?

Got to agree with driftrider. My old Savage loves nosler (55-gr). Of course, I don't plan on keeping prairie dog pelts, but I get unbeatable accuracy.

RE: I'd like to hear your thoughts on savage...

I've got an old J-model (22-250) with a stainless, fluted heavy barrel and a Canjar trigger. You'd EXPECT a gun like that to be accurate, and it is. My brother has an off-the shelf package Savage...

RE: How many folks shoot with a ...

Does Prairie doggin' count? If so, I like my old Savage 112-J in 22-250. I've turned hundreds of the critters into a sodden mess with that old single shot.

RE: Favorite WSM?

My wife just bought me a 270 wsm for my birthday. I'll let you know how it handles antelope and deer. I'm curious to see how it lends itself to prairie dogging. My brother's 270 is deadly in that...

RE: Reloading the .357 Mag

My old model 28 loves lead cast 158-gr on top of 5-gr HP-38. If you're shootin a lot these, be sure to keep the M.V. below 1000 fps to cut down on barrel leading. My buddy ruined an otherwise...

RE: You Might Be a Gun Nut if.......

Excellent post! How 'bout this one. I found out on Mother's Day that I'm gonna be a daddy (for the first time). When folks ask when the child is due all I can say is "Hopefully he'll hold on...

RE: What pistol for self defense?

My wife has a Bulgarian Makarov for concealded carry and it's an unbelievably relaible gun. The roundball ammo is dirt cheap and you can easily get ammunition more suited for self defence for it. ...

RE: Colorado Hog Hunt

All this time, I thought I had to head to Texas to hunt hogs. Of course, I'm kind of snobbish about hunting them inside a cage, but I do know some folks in the Montrose area, maybe I'll ask around. ...

RE: what's your biggest booboo.....be honest?

Got distracted loading some plinking rounds for my Super Blackhawk. Everybody at the range got a big kick out of my having to extract 240-gr lazercasts from the forcing cone of my pistol. The...

RE: Varmint Load for .243

I don't know what the rate of twist is on your Remington, but my old 7400 didn't like the lighter weght bullets. I got best results from 95-grainers. Keep in mind, I was attempting to make a good...

RE: .277 caliber 110 gr. Hornady V-Max

My brother occasionally uses a 270 with 90-gr hollowpoints to hunt prairie dogs. The trick is to keep the m.v. under 3,000 fps. Now that I have a 270 wsm, I'm curious to see what loads will work on...

RE: .223 OR .224 Bullets?

That was one of the first mistakes I made loading for my 22-250. the 223 "hornet" bullets don't work worth a dang in my 22-250. They just don't engage the lands and hit the dirt after anything over...

RE: I finally took the plunge into reloading...what do you think?

One final thought on handloading; I got into it ostensibly because "It was cheaper". (I can actually hear a few of you chuckling). My old Lyman turret press and most of the tools were donated to me...

RE: opinions on thumbhole stocks for hunting

Yup. Those evil thumbhole stocks. Y'know, I just KNEW it was the pistol grip on John Mohammed's gun that made it so lethal. Seriously, I put an ATI "Assault" style stock on my Marlin 7000. ...

Thanks for the waqrm welcome. I've always been interested in how those Rossis performed. My chosen profession, while a lot of fun, doesn't pay much, so I'm always interested in which guns draw the...

RE: What's your passion?

Prairie doggin'. I've got a Savage 112J with a new stainless bbl and a canjar trigger in 22-250. That rifle has taught me a few things about sniping 1-liter Coke bottle-sized targets at 400 yards. ...

RE: marlin .22 question

That's good to know. My old Winchester always spun them stingers a foot right at 100 yards. I wondered if that had to do with the bbl length. I'ts been cut and re-crowned to 25-5/8. My original...

Wyoming is the place. Depending on where you hunt, you just wait until after the draw and pick up one of the hundreds of leftovers. My doe tag cost me $60.00 and I just waltzed up to Laramie and...

RE: Which Gun

I have nothing but love for my Savage. It's an old 112J Savage in 22-250. My next new rifle buy will probably be another Savage. I love my brother's package-series 270. It's just a great shooter...

RE: marlin .22 question

I've shot stingers out of quite a few rifles. At least three of them Marlins. I've never gotten the accuracy out of them that I like. I'm talking about varminting out to maybe 125 yards, not...

RE: H&R Talk- Gone!

I was a regular on Marlin Talk for a few years. I wonder if the less-than-gentlemanly tenor of a lot of the posts (of which I was guilty from time to time) factored into Marlin's decision to pull...

RE: I finally took the plunge into reloading...what do you think?

Big Bob could not be more right. I just started handloading two years ago. I just jumped right in with a 22-250, and have had the good fortune not to kill my fool self before several graybeards...
