A new caliber conversion for another caliber around $35 to $40.

Really depends on the shapeof the equipment and the local market for used sporting...

It isn't exactly a .270, but they already make have the 260 Rem. Basically it is a .308 necked down to accept a .260 cal bullet.
Ruger makes one in a model 77, as does Sako and Remington....

Your "park ranger" knew about as much about ARs as you do about spelling and grammar. Most people, ESPECIALLY LEO's and park rangers wouldn't know the difference between an M16 part or an AR15 part...

What do you want out of the gun? Would it be a dedicated deer rifle? If so, then you should get the 30-30 and my suggestion would be the Marlin...
