We put lots of miles on the boots and bicycles...

RE: Turkey sign, and a little test/help for new hunters

Looks like secal dropping in number one. Number two's a hen.

If that middle toe is as long as my middle finger, then its a tom.

RE: Need everyones help...

I think the camo craze if fueled primarily by commercialism. Camo helps, and I wouldn't turkey hunt without it, but movement is the key.

There is no other hunting sport where most hunters are totally camo-ed up, sitting on the ground behind their decoys on the edges of fields.

Rifles and turkey hunting don't mix. Just too dadgum...

RE: Mossberg 500 vs. Remington 870

What I'm saying is that it is rare for a tom to hang up up 75 -100 yds from my set-up. If that is happening to you, then I'd do two things:

1) ditch the dekes
2) set-up so that the tom has to...

RE: Mossberg 500 vs. Remington 870

Not to offend, but if most toms hang up at 75 to 100 yds, then there is a setup problem.

I'd suggest setting up so that the turkey cannot see you until he is within gun range. Your percentages...

My son killed his first turkey with my 20 gauge Browning auto-5, with a full choke 20" barrel and Remington 2 3/4" #6 magnum shells. Killed him at 27 yds. That gun holds a tight pattern.
