RE: Standing Rock Res. turkeys (South Dakota)

Northwestern S.D. You don't needa native guide from what I understand.....only a tribal license. No state license required.

Standing Rock Res. turkeys (South Dakota)

Anybody ever hunted this area? Low fees, tons of land and good numbers of birds (so I hear)

Any input appreciated, as always:)

RE: Any Action in Georgia? New Member

It has a decent night life, but it's a small college. There are some women there, though.:) Old Faithful may be able to tell you more than me, since he goes there now and I'm sure times have changed...

RE: Any Action in Georgia? New Member

I went to VSU for 2.5 years, myself.:) Transferred to UGA and 7 years later, I'm still here!

Good Luck!

RE: Any Action in Georgia? New Member

Valdosta is way South Ga., about 25 miles from Florida, so they peak earlier than North Ga. They'll be rocking at that time. I grew up down there and will be hunting about 25 miles from Valdosta...

RE: calling mistakes

Perhaps the biggest mistake is calling with an noticeably unnatural rhythm. You don't have to be a "great" or textbook type caller if you sound like a real turkey.

RE: What's your favorite shotgun action?

Pump (870 SP) for everything but turkeys.

I use a single-shot HR that's been cut down and modified. It's short, light, tight-shooting and a pleasure to carry all day. Only downside is the...

RE: WHAT EXACTLY IS A WMA?

In Georgia a WMA can be either private land leased to the state, or a part of the Nat'l Forest. For example I hunt a WMA in Oconee Nat'l Forest. It is Federally owned, but the state manages for...

RE: Neck shots?

Depends on the situation presented me, but I shoot them in the neck/head frequently. Never lost one, never had one move. Many folks down here are neck shooters.

Shot two in the head and one...

RE: Need some help on hunting a new property

It would probably pay off to take the first morning to scout, rather than just sitting down and depending on blind luck. You may think you're wasting a morning, but it will pay off the rest of the...

RE: If you could buy a new whitetail gun...

Remington Model 7 in 7-08 with a Leupold or Burris variable scope and aftermarket trigger set at 3 lbs.

I love my Rem. 700 .270, but a light, short rifle would find it's way into the woods quite...

RE: i think i shot a a really nice one....need some input

I don't think he hit the vitals either. The buck is not going to be alive to be jumped out of his bed if the vitals were hit. The deer was probably quartering toward him and he hit guts....
I just...

RE: i think i shot a a really nice one....need some input

If you are a good shot you don't HAVE to limit yourself to broadside shots. I see absolutely nothing wrong with shooting a calm deer facing you at 30 yds. with a gun. With a bow, it's a different...

Do any of you do European mounts?

I noticed the post below concerning plaques...I had a shoulder mount done of my first big buck, but have since done Euro. mounts exclusively. I know it's all opinion, but they just look better to me,...

RE: Defining fair chase....

Trophy,
Can't you see how wrong you are? Nikes may work fine behind a high fence, but TRUE hunters only chase them in Adidas!! Now that, and ONLY that is fair chase!!! An adidas hunter is to be...

RE: Defining fair chase....

I think this whole issue is indicative of our changing society. Slowly but surely, we are losing rural hunters who grew up chasing squirrels and rabbits and hunting for the pure enjoyment of it....

This is my first post, so Howdy to all. Good grief, White Raven. Why do you hunt? For me atleast, it is a personal pursuit. It seems that your ego is waaaay to invested and that hunting is a...
