RE: 35 rem vs 30/30

Yeah the exit hole was as big as a baseball on the doe my son shot at about 35 yds. Broke both shoulders, and she kinda crawled 10-15 yds and expired.

No running off.

I haven't bought that...

I'm going to go tomorrow and if it's still there I'll get it for the "collection".

I bought the 35 for $100 from a freind who never used it.

I like good deals on guns when I find'em!:D

35 rem vs 30/30

I have a 35 Marlin that my son killed his first deer with. I have mostly hunted with a 270. I want to get a deer with the 35.

But...at a local gun shop there is a 336 30/30 that is in...

3" hevi-shot vs 3.5" HV

Are these two shells about equal in range knock-down effectiveness?

I am thinking of going to hevi-shot instead of buying another 3.5" gun for turk hunting.

RE: Best ways to hunt in this condition?

i would find a wooded bottom out of the wind, and don't sit under any rotten looking limbs.
Stay low out of the wind, call soft, clucks and purrs and scratch the leaves.

RE: Black Water Creek...

I would get near some water or bottoms, listen for gobbles. Get there way before daylight.
Move to the gobbles silently. Get on their level if they are in a bottom.
Stay 100 yds away.

Gobbling question

The birds are gobbling late into the AM till 9:00am, after the past weeks of a quiet spell, where they gobble once or twice and shuttup.

Does this mean they aren't "henned-up" now?

Or are...

I have just heard about a decoy called the "winger", or so I was told.

It has a flapper device on it's tail instead of wings. Not as obnoxious as the rotoduck.

Heard you have to beat them...

My battle hardened 390 keeps on shooting like there's no tomorrow.

IT HAS NEVER JAMMED IN 5 YEARS!...And that's shooting it without cleaning too sometimes between hunts!

RE: natural ground blinds?

Best position for it is to have the sun at your back, wind in your face, sitting in the shadows.
Or as close to the above as you can....and sit very, very still.

I prefer this style myself.
