RE: Are Turkish Mausers still available

I saw an ad like that, but when I called the company they had sold out. Apparently they sell those ads months in advance.

RE: 8mm Mauser load

I handload for the 8mm Mauser a lot and I REALLY like the 220-grain Nosler Ballastic Tips. The grain size you use depends on the individual rifle. You need to tinker a bit and find which kind of food...

RE: What would you like to see on outdoor TV shows?

I' d like to see my favorite form of hunting, going after feral hogs with a handgun. It' s the only kind of Texas hunting I can think of where the game bites back. Give one of those TV types a .44...

RE: deer: 270 vs 7mm-08 vs 308

Which caliber, .270 .308 or 7mm-08? I have one answer. YES.

I' m a 7mm fan so I guess I would say the 7mm=08, although I would prefer the 7x57 Mauser in a nice light handy Model 93 carbine.

Are Turkish Mausers still available

I have had my C&R license for about a year and haven' t bought anything with it. I was thinking about buying one of those $40 Turkish Mausers but couldn' t find them anywhere. Does anyone know of a...

RE: Mausers

All of which goes to my earlier point. I don' t think it can be questioned that many rifles, like the Springfield, the Winchester 70, the Jap Arisaka, the Enfield Model 1917 (and by extension, the...

RE: Mausers

There is no such thing as a small ring Model 98. The Mexican Mausers, which are variants of the Model 98, have small rings, but they aren' t truly Mausers, any more than the Springfield is a Mauser....

RE: 7mm 08

I wasn' t knocking the 7mm-08. It' s a good round, since it is virtually a ballastic clone of the 7x57.

It' s more popular in the US because it has been promoted more since its development. I'...

RE: 7mm 08

Ruger offers their No. 1 single shot and also the Model 77 bolt action in 7x57. And I never have understood the big deal about short action rifles.

RE: Help:What semi-auto carbine to get??

I' d rethink it. It is hard to beat an SKS for a knockaround semi-auto. They are accurate, dependable and cheap. And that 7.62X39 round is plenty powerful. Using steel core Chicom surplus, I' ve shot...

RE: NEED HELP

Winchester made a couple of .22 rifles that loaded through the buttstock... the Model 03, 63, and 74 leap to mind... The first two were nice handling little rifles, and the 03 was especially...

RE: Convince me there is a real NEED for a semi

If you are talking strictly as a hunting rifle, there is no real need for a semi. If you are talking about a rifle that can double as a self-defense weapon, the dynamics change.

RE: Good 22. rifles

As as been mentioned, I don' t know why you wouldn' t want a Ruger 10-22... best .22 LR for the money. But I have a Marlin Model 90 that has been a good rifle... accurate and never jammed yet. I keep...

RE: How ya' ll doing?

I was born in Marshall, Texas, but growing up I lived in Karnack, Leigh and a little spot of woods 13 miles from Carthage, 12 miles from DeBerry and 18 miles...

RE: 7mm 08

I think it' s a solution to a problem that didn' t exist. Anything the 7mm-08 can do, the 101 year old 7mm Mauser can do as well or better.

RE: Best caliber for lever action Whitetail rifle?

Calibers for a lever action deer rifle: .35 Rem, .30-.30, .444, .450, .45-70, .308, yes, any of the above would do fine, although for most deer I have seen the .450 Ruger and .45-70 might be a bit...

Depends on several factors.

Where does he hunt? If he hunts in a wooded area, you can buy a brand new Winchester or Marlin 30-30 for less than $300. And we all know how many deer have been...

RE: Mausers

Although I am a big fan of the small ring Mausers, particulary the Model 93, I would reccomend sticking with a large ring for a custom rifle. The exact action you pick depends on the caliber you plan...

Probably from $400 to $600 if it belonged to anyone else. But you already said you wouldn' t sell it. So that makes it priceless.
