RE: Which Cylinder?

I'd say improved cylinder, or cylinder. You can buy rifled choke tubes.

RE: Backup Muzzleloader

If there are any gun shows near you, look for a used one for sale by someone walking around the show. You can usually pick up a nice older model prety reasonable.

RE: 54cal Roundball vs 58cal Roundball

I have the 58, and like it. The price of shooting both isn't that much different. I'd rather have too much gun, than not enough.

RE: Want to start muzzle loading

The Knight and T/C rifles sold at WalMart are good rifles for hunting. The traditional boys may cringe at them, but none the less, they are good rifles with good warrantys. You don't need to buy the...

RE: New NEF Heritage rifle (sidekick)

90 or 100 grains of 777 or 2F
400 grain 44 cal Hornady XTP with a sabot
Leupold 4X scope
It will shoot 100 yards all day long.
I wouldn't worry about the 150 grain loads.

RE: Important question...rookie

I wouldn't wait long to get the ball puller. The wet black powder can be corrosive in your barrel. Call around to some of your friends that shoot muzzleloaders. One of them may be able to put you on...

RE: Sabots and Bullets

I like a 400 grain saboted Hornady XTP with 90 grains of powder. I think the bigger bullets shoot better. I don't know if it's because of the weight, longer length, or both.

RE: Barrel swabbing between shots? How and what?

If you get the isopropyl alcohol, and put a little Dawn dishwashing detergent in it, that will work. The reason for the alcohol is that whatever residue is left in the barrel will evaporat a lot...

RE: Never shot a muzzleloader...

Read the manual that came with the rifle. Also, you could write to Thompson/Center, and ask them for a manual. I know you have a CVA, but the T/C manual is a good one to start with. Just tell them...

RE: BUCKMASTERS NY BANQUET DINNER 3/19/05
