I think you are making a great choice for that rifle. Leupold makes some scopes with a larger objective that still sit low on the rifle. One scope has a 56mm objective that sits as low on the rifle...

My longest shot to date was ranged at 397-yards. I hunt in some pretty open country and still a shot over 250-yards is not that common. I try to sneak as close as I can, when I can.

I also recommend looking up the cost of Weatherby ammo on Weatherby's web site. Weatherby did have a special sale price on 300-Weatherby mag ammo for $39.95 per box.
