RE: Great MA Gun Opener

Bill,
I hunt private land only with permission and it's tough to get permission in my area. I suggest you go out to western mass in the Berkshires or Pittsfield area where there's much more open...

RE: Great MA Gun Opener

I should have also added that the buck I took was fighting with two others over three does just before I took him and the buck taken later in the day was tending two does as well with a larger buck...

RE: First deer EVER with a bow(pics)and it's a buck!!

Congrats Atlasman on a nice buck and a great hunt. I remember my first bow kill which was a small doe and it was a trophy for me. I had a nice 8 point come in the first year and only had a direct...

Persistence Pays Off

I've been reading and enjoying all the posts here and finally have one of my own. I've been hunting at least once or twice a week since our Oct 15th opener here in MA and it's been very slow. I...

RE: New England Rut?

I hunt MA Zone 11 and have been seeing scrapes for over a week now and a guy took an 8 point on a farm in Wrentham that came into a scent trail he had laid on the way to his stand. I saw most rut...

RE: Massachusetts Rut

I live in NA and hunt many of the surrounding towns. I've heard the deer population in Rockland is pretty good. Do you hunt Rockland ?

RE: Massachusetts Rut

Madman,
I don't know for sure but the consensus in my hunting group is the 7th to the 10th should be the best rut days to hunt. I hunt Bristol County and have been seeing scrapes now for about two...

RE: 7 days in Ma. should I change my setup?

I agree with Rangeball. I hunt SE MA and have practiced out to 30 yards as well and I wouldn't change anything 7 days before the opener. If you can kill a deer out to 30 yards you're redy to go....

I'm in SE MA and have only been out scouting once and didn't see any rubs or scrapes but that nearly two weeks ago. I expect to get out this weekend and hope to at least find rubs if not scrapes. ...

RE: For all you pros!!

Get a series of different calls that range from subtle to high freq...somtimes a bird will answer to something different.
Spend alot of time scouting where you'll be hunting so you know the terrain....

RE: Need info on the Scott Mongoose

I use the Mongoose but shoot hunting only with a small amount of target practice so I don't have alot to offer on serving wear. However it has a nice design with only one hook jaw to minimize serving...

RE: Deer calls

Can't say this always works, but I took my first 8 point this past season using an HS Tru-Talker grunt tube and it was authentic enough to pull him away from a doe he was chasing. First call he...

RE: Bucks Grunting?

I heard a buck grunt for the first time this past bow season. It was a 6 point that had come in from my right nose to the ground winding the drag rag I had used on the way in. To make a long story...
