Not that I ever hunted a deer, but the answer "a buck because their hunted more" assumes that they can tell that by being "male" they are the target and not that the species as a whole is the target....

Well from what I gather from the posts the 30-06 seems to be the middle ground in power and recoil. Also the fact that it has a wider range of ammo.

Other than a .22 I have no experience.

If some one could explain why a .308 bullet can be shot with a 30.06 riffle?
