It was the weather in rifle season that was bad. I think it was a matter of fewer people out the second day as well as lots of snow for the first saturday. I saw about as many deer as I normally do....

Good choice, Late season stalk sounds like your best chance. Bold tactics late in the season are not a bad choice. And with a most stalks you will lose site of your quarry at points throughout....

Yes give the deer a once over before digging in. I once had a puss ball on the side of one during rifle season only to find a broadhead few weeks old inside the deer. Puss ball was a warning marking.
