Well nobody is perfect. You tried to find her and you didn't do anything wrong intentionally. With a gutshot you have to let the deer go and lay down so as not to push her too far. You could try...

hunt a run coming out of the swamp. don't use any scent. make sure your scent free. hunt a rub line next to a narrow stream. hunt the does. hunt next to a really big oak that drops lots of acorns

8 acres is fine. make a little pond or put out a water trough. Plant a couple of fruit trees or make a clover plot or fertilize a big oak or whatever...8 acres will work

How many deer per square mile

This piece of woods I estimate has about 50-75 deer in it. It's about 1 mile by 1 mile. The deer can cross from other nearby woodlots also. Whats a good number of deer for a piece thats that size.

be scent free...he lives by his nose and can smell like a bloodhound. He can smell human scent in the air at a 100 yards...no problem. Sounds like you need to wait a week and move close to a thicket...

Scrapes are starting to show up

found a brand new scrape Fri. afternoon...deep hoof lines in it. also got a glimpse at the deer that i think made it. but he knows i was there. Don't know if i should hunt the stand in the am or go...

no scent is the best.....but Wildlife research has a new scent called excite. It's thick like honey....not a gel...sort of syrup like. It's pungent and it brought a big buck in tonight be he came in...
