RE: Finding someone in your tree stand???What the .%^&$#

Was this public or private land? If it is private land and you know this guy doesn't have permission then I would have left and called the police immediately. If this was on public land then I...

Wow, I am really impressed. I don't know anyone that has built there own boat, didn't realize people still did. How much do these things weigh? My brother started making his own cork decoys and...

RE: Which would you start a newcomer hunter with Ducks or Geese?

I would say it depends on which one you are best equipt to have success hunting. Especially if they are young I think it is important for them to have some success to really spark an interest in it....

RE: Any Luck Hunting Pheasants In Minnesota on opener?

Never made it out but the reports I've heard have been very poor. Sounds like the hatch didn't go very well with the wet and cold spring. Doesn't help to have 95% of the corn still in the fields...

RE: Goose decoys

For snow geese some people use old white T shirts but if you are trying to hunt Canadas then I think it would be difficult to make decoys. One thing you can do is check websites for used silouhette...

RE: shooting gun from stand

The best option I have found is to cross your legs and rest your elbow on your knee. Hard to explain but this really helps to keep you steady as long as you can sit down.

RE: Duck or Goose Jerkey??

whiskeysnoot,

Do you use a smoker, oven or dehydrator? I've found it helps to freeze the duck or goose breast and then cut your strips. Helps to get it really thin.

RE: Spearing decoy carving reference

I use spearing decoys every winter and it is not just old vintage decoys.

Rusty,

They are used to spear northerns in the winter, it is shaped like a real fish such as a perch and you jig...

RE: Duck or Goose Jerkey??

I've made it plenty of times out of the oven but I'm starting to think that I need to get a dehydrator. The oven seems to just cook the meat and not dry it out.

RE: Mounted Duck

Pintail for sure, I suppose it really makes a difference where you live. Woodies and Mallards are pretty plentiful here but I have never shot (or seen) a mature drake Pintail.

RE: Anyone hunt North Dakota last weekend?

I just got back and we ate quite a bit of duck too. One trick to lock up land to hunt on from farmers that we use is to feed them. Each year we have a fish fry/duck feed in one of the farmers sheds...

How is the current on the river? If you can hunt back water (no current) that is fairly shallow then you can get started pretty cheap. If there is current then you will probably need a boat or dog....
