I would say it depends on which one you are best equipt to have success hunting. Especially if they are young I think it is important for them to have some success to really spark an interest in it....

Never made it out but the reports I've heard have been very poor. Sounds like the hatch didn't go very well with the wet and cold spring. Doesn't help to have 95% of the corn still in the fields...

The best option I have found is to cross your legs and rest your elbow on your knee. Hard to explain but this really helps to keep you steady as long as you can sit down.

Do you use a smoker, oven or dehydrator? I've found it helps to freeze the duck or goose breast and then cut your strips. Helps to get it really thin.

I use spearing decoys every winter and it is not just old vintage decoys.

They are used to spear northerns in the winter, it is shaped like a real fish such as a perch and you jig...

I've made it plenty of times out of the oven but I'm starting to think that I need to get a dehydrator. The oven seems to just cook the meat and not dry it out.

How is the current on the river? If you can hunt back water (no current) that is fairly shallow then you can get started pretty cheap. If there is current then you will probably need a boat or dog....

They sell extension poles that telescope out with a hook on the end to help retrieve decoys but that would limit your spread to about 12' out. I would probably try a canoe or else they sell those...
