Aluminum is harder to cut than slate. I like a piece coarse drywall screen myself. Sand back and forth in a horizontal direction to give the surface a "grain" like effect. Then run the striker down...

I had an extra bead put on an 1187. Took it to a gunsmith. He drilled and tapped it and installed the bead for $15. Also replaced the front bead with a white one.
