Even If you were able to get a good clean cut, I think the jaws would be to thin in the cut area and would bend or break. You could just buy replacement offset jaws. I use OS and non OS jaws for fox...

RE: Coyotes 22 mag/17 hmr/22 lr

I started out in the same boat as you, I picked up a used marlin in 22mag and killed a fair share of coyotes, fox, and woodchucks. All shots were limited to 75 yards and under. Youcan get a good...

RE: Best rifle for rabbits/squirrels/fox

Try a marlin in cal .22 mag, stick with head shots on squirrels and rabbits to keep damage to a minimum. I have taken fox out to 100 yards with my .22 mag, but I try to limit it to around 75.

RE: Power Points or Core Lokt's

I shoot core lokt's out of my .300 sav, 30-06, and .35 rem and have had great luck and accuracy with them. Power points are a close second. Fedral is the only ammo I have ever had any trouble with.

RE: i was wondering if I made the right choice?

Good choice, I shoot 50 gr rem php's or 52 gr speer hp's out of my .223. I had an H&R single shot in 22 hornet, it was accurate but the trigger pull was real heavy.

RE: Is the 22mag idea for coyotes?

The 22 mag has done good for me as long as I limit my shots to around 50 yards. If I think I will be shooting at longer ranges, I take the .223.

Has any one tried loading hornady .357 180gr xtp's in a 35 rem? I have tried 158gr jhp's, and they are great on pests around the farm, but I don't think they will hold together enough for deer. Would...

RE: 357 handgun for deer?

Go with the 180gr jhp, or a hardcast keith style semiwadcutter, and keep shots to around 50 yards. I would avoid lead roundnoses, the factory ones are loaded at low velocity to prevent barrel...

With a smoothbore barrel you are limited to non-sabot slugs, you can use sabot slugs, but it is just a waste of money. Start with any good foster style slug from win, rem, fed, brenneke, lightfield,...

I have used both and did not notice any dif. I kept the .223 and load Rem. 50gr plated HP,s in it and almost never get an exit or any pelt damage on fox and coyote.

RE: Finding shed antlers

I like to follow deer trails to bedding and feeding areas. Unharvested corn fields are some of the best places I have found, I think the corn stalks help knock off loose antlers.

RE: 22. WMR for Close Range Coyote's

I have used a 22mag on coyotes with good results, IF the range is kept around 50 yrds. I use a .223 most of the time, but if I don't expect a coyote I carry the 22 mag.
