RE: Illinois- age for kids to hunt?

I am not aware of any minimum age requirement, except that some special youth hunt programs may have a minimum age of 10yrs. Generally, as long as they can understand and successfully complete the...

RE: NEED QUICK INFO PLEASE ABOUT ILLINOIS YOUTH DEER HUNTS

I think the program you are remembering is not the same as the current youth deer season, which I believe is only about 3 yrs old. It is a special antlerless only season for youth under 16 who must...

RE: ok one more question..

You will definitely want real Black Powder for the flinter. The substitutes are just too hard to light, and don' t give reliable ignition in a flinter. For a 50 cal you could use either FFg (2F) or...

About 20 years ago, when we first started getting a flock of resident Canadas in my area, I made a dozen decoys out of old tires. I used them 2 seasons and killed a bunch of geese over them. From a...

RE: german shorthair or wirehair

I may be predjudiced by my affection for the breed, but if you are going to use the dog for waterfowling, I' d go with the Wirehair because the coat affords more protection from cold water.

RE: rem 7400?

I have a 742 in .243 and a friend has one in .308. Both are very reliable - I can' t recall a jam with either - and their accuracy is on a par with most hunting rifles of any action type.

RE: Do you like Dick' s?

They opened one near us last summer. It caters mainly to a pretty " yuppie" crowd. They do have some bargains, but they are pretty limited in what I consider " outdoor" products.

RE: Has anyone tried Buffalo Bul-etts

I' ve tried the ball-etts in several rifles, 50 & 54 cal and got very poor accuracy with heavy hunting loads. The Buffalo Bullets, however, have been very good performers for me.

RE: Autoloader for birdhunting

For a field gun, where you are going to spend more time carrying than shooting, I like the Franchi 48AL. In 20ga it's only about 5 1/2 pounds and it handles like lightning.

RE: 20 ga under 6 lbs?

For an auto, the Franchi 48al in 20ga is about 5 1/2 to 5 3/4 pounds, depending on barrel length.

For a pump, the old Ithaca M37 Featherweight in 20ga is about the same weight, I believe. But,...
