RE: good spot for mineral lick?

If you put the lick in a hollowed out tree trunk the deer will look after getting rid of the trunk for you. Just drill a few holes if the trunk is a fresh cut.

Timbercruiser knows what he's talking about. I would add that you should transplant older (2-3 year old) seedlings as they are larger and can handle competing vegetation better. They should be...

There are plenty of hardy bamboos which will grow in your area. If you wanted to feed Pandas they would be a good choice but I don't know if deer will eat them :-)

Good link Timbercruiser. It's nice to see the diversification that they recommend. Not just draws during hunting season but full year feeding. The math isn't that bad either except that it doesn't...

RE: How far up North for Sawtooths/Gobbler Oaks?

Bobco, just try a few trees and see how they overwinter. That way you won't have too much invested. Muckland is in zone 6b just like my southern property. They grow fine at that site. It's at the 5b...

RE: Apple or Pear trees?

It depends on the variety. Deer will eat from one apple tree at my property and just leave apples from other trees around it for the coons. Plant both trees and you can't go wrong.

RE: How far up North for Sawtooths/Gobbler Oaks?

They grow well on my zone 6 property but the tops are frozen off every winter at my zone 5b property. It would help if you give them a sheltered location but if you're zone 5 expect die back after a...

RE: Don't miss the boat

Depending on the soil I've had 3-4 feet of growth per year. You should expect at least 1-2 feet. The deer browse the new vegetation when the trees are small. When the tree is mature the fruit is the...

They will sell them at garden centers. Look for the white and large black varieties. After you have a few you'll never need to plant more, the birds look after the rest. They take about 3-4 years to...
