RE: .35 whelen ?

I think jessejames may be correct about the barrel lengths. If any of your 358's are 22"+ you aren't going to gain much with a 21" Whelen.Comparing the 308 to the 30-06 is the same thing,same...

RE: Winchester Model 670 30-06 caliber ?

All metal is pure Model 70.Could be described as the forerunner to the Ranger models. First centerfire I owned was a 670A in 30-06.Came with a Weaver Challenger 4X scope which I was told was a...

RE: Versitile caliber

If I were you I'd go with the 7mm Rem Mag.I have a 270,7 Rem Mag and a 300 Win Mag.When handloaded my 300 will do 3100 with a 180 and the 7 Rem Mag will do near 3000 with a 175.Can't see any animal...

RE: Forming 3006 into .280

A friend of mine does it all the time. It's not a problem. The shoulder of the 280 being .05 further up than the '06 is a good thing. You form a second shoulder and headspce snug on that. When you...

RE: OK,.. I'm FAMBOOZELED!

Common problem with a Model 70 in STW or 300 Weatherby. 3.6" is not enough length for these cartridges. Get a Model 700 Rem with the 3.7" mag box.I wish Winchester would make about a 3.8" mag box in...

RE: Fact or Fiction...Rifle Accuracy?

Absolute pure fiction propagated by people who do not understand mechanical objects. To measure barrel wear, which I assume this is supposed to do, will only be determined this way IF you know two...

RE: tasco world class scopes

After owning many Tasco's over the years I've some to this conclusion. The only Tasco's that will sit on top a rifle I own are the ones made in JAPAN. All others are junk.I have 3 Japanese made...

RE: 7mm rem mag and a 300

Before I start I must tell you that I have both a 7 Rem Mag and a 300 Win Mag(among others). It depends on the bullet weights you want to shoot. For instance,I view my 7 Mag as a light bullet,long...

RE: .280 or .3006?

I'm with stubblejumper....unless you come across a good 270 first...ooops, hope I didn't start a 270 vs 280 war.

RE: alpine ???

It's a Parker-Hale.They had a model called the Alpine.They are a Spanish Santa Barbara action,a commercial '98 Mauser clone,with a decent adjustable trigger with a side safety.Some have detachable...

RE: 7 mm mag. throat erosion?

smokepoledoug, I realize this won't answer your original question but if you have a 270 and a 30-06 you certainly won't gain, much with a 7 Rem Mag.It's pretty close to the 270 with lighter bullets...

RE: .300 vs 7mm rem mag

stubblejumper is correct again. I have both 7 Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag in Remington 700's.The 7mm weighs about a half pound less with a Brown-Precision fibreglass stock and a lighter scope. The 300 is...

RE: 284?

The 458 Win,338 Win,264 Win,7mm Rem Mag and the 308 Norma Mag all use brass of about 2.50" long. Also the 257,270 and 7mm Weatherbys use brass of very similiar length with the typical Weatherby...

RE: 284?

Uh.. guys, it's like this. The 284 Winchester cartridge uses a .284" bullet just like the 280 Remington and all the other various 7mm's.The 284 Winchester uses a case all it's own, shorter than the...

RE: elk hunting rifle ?

I've taken only one elk so far but I've seen 6 or 7 taken. ALL with 300 Win Mags.I put two 200 gr Grand Slams thru a big 5x5 at about 25 yards.Took out a shoulder with the second shot but the first...

RE: What's your favorite deer gun?

Sounds like a "loaded" question.Depends on what year it is. Lately it's been a Rem 700 ADL/FS in 7 Rem Mag.I have taken more deer with my 300 Win Mag over the years than anything else.Took quite a...

RE: ALL THESE DIFFERENT 7mm?

50-150 yards? Assuming deer and maybe hogs and smaller black bear, I'd get a 7mm-08 Remington(in a Win M70 Compact, but that's another story)and never look back. Next choice would be a 280...

RE: ALL THESE DIFFERENT 7mm?

Same reason "they" make about 30 versions of a 30 caliber and probably 10-15 of a 224 caliber. As far as a "7mm", the most popular one and the one most guys are referring to when they say "7mm" is the...
