If you can get the spray out, pop the cap and discharge it in that amount of time, it will almost certainly turn the bear. Pepper spray is good stuff.

The only reason I discount it in this forum...

A 30.06 is suitable for any hunting in Alaska.

To my way of thinking, it's more about the optics than the caliber. A .375 with a 3x9 scope is next to useless in a bear encounter since such events...

I used to carry a .243 years ago, but now I hunt with a .350 Rem Mag in a Model 7 carbine. The .350 is probably overkill on a deer or caribou, but it's sure comforting to have with you in bear...

When a...

For defense, a shotgun is the best choice. But, this is a hunting forum and not many people are going to hunt deer (or whatever) in grizzly country with a shotgun.

The reason I like shotguns (for...

I've killed one bear in self-defense. I've backed down (or backed away from) probably a hundred grizzlies without having to shoot. There is one grizzly per square mile where I live and so I've...

Hunting in Grizzly Country

Do you hunt deer, elk or moose in grizzly country?

Some advice from someone who has been there and done that.

1. Don't hunt alone, even for a short stalk.
