I would say at the bare minimum a 270, but that might even be on the light size. I would recommend, if he can handle the recoil a 30 cal, but of course a 7mm is a qualifier as well.

Odds are if there is more than one doe in the group then there is offspring and yearlings present. The yearling will hook up with other does and go on with living just fine. Don' t beat yourself...

I have had good sucess with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip to get the rust off, especially helps inside the allen heads of bolts. Alcohol evaporates away so no odor.
