On new knights I do not us sabots just full bore at first this helps smooth the bore works will for me. I us Thors for this in a 50 cal and resize for 45 cal like .451 or .452 bullets.

you want the lug to touch and the fork this helps stable the barrel in the stock plus this is were the bolt goes to hold the barrel in the stock. if it didn't have contact the barrel would walk in...

Only thing is they don't no what primer you will be using so they set it up for win primers if you us anything then that the primers or shorter and will link around the primer and needs a custom fit....

I never trade this but can you sand just the flat tip of the ring just to take the dings out as long as there not to deep and steel work and seal. and you may want to do it before you mate to bore.

you need to protect the little ring at the barrel...

you need to protect the little ring at the barrel end of the plug that's what seals to the inside of bore if it gets bent it will leak around the nose of the plug. don't drop it been there done that.
