RE: Gratuities (Tips) For Guides

You've struck on an interesting point.
Does anyone out there know that in parts of the West (as I've been told by outfitters and guides) that some land owners get upwards of $3000 per animal...

RE: Gratuities (Tips) For Guides

Hunting season is only a few weeks long in most States so its a part-time job...... or is it?

Two calibers ... two elk.

I've just returned from a very successful cow elk hunt in NM. Before I left, as always there were discussions of calibers and bullet combinations.
Well I had the very real pleasure of hunting...

RE: What are your secrets for finding a place to put your stand?

All these suggestions are good ones. Basically, you spend time in the woods and see if you can pattern the deer in the area. Once you're familiar with the movements of the deer you can determine...

RE: I've never seen a Elk, Moose, or anything of the sort in the wild

I'd worry less about the distance from Virginia (you're probably planning on driving) and concentrate on the areas where you're most likely to draw a tag. Depending on how soon you want to do this...

RE: GPS or Compass, which do you prefer?

Some points......
GPS does require a compass to confirm data.
GPS don't work under all conditions.
Knowing where you are is easier and faster with GPS. But that's no good without a map.
