RE: Still have a fully spotted fawn...Anybody else?

TexasBowHunter, the reason could be your buck/doe ratio. More does than the bucks can possibly breed for months. Doe will go into heat over and over again until bred. Late breeding leads to late born...

RE: Still have a fully spotted fawn...Anybody else?

I have seen two does with spotted fawns, the first fawn had spots that were almost faded, could only see them with binoculars. The second two fawns were as red as could be and had bright white spots,...

RE: Time in a bottle?

If I had all the time in the world, then I would spend more time before season scouting. I don't know if I would sit more (increase in hunting pressure) but maybe through better scouting, I would...

RE: Squirrels -- Things I'm convinced of:

Squirrels can cue you in to where the acorns are falling.
They also will drop stuff on you from above, I had one drop a pine cone on my head last year. They have short memories, 5 minutes after you...

RE: Doe #2 down-You know she's small when your buddy says "She sure will be good eating"

IMHO the best doe to kill is the one with a button buck (no spots) as she will run him off before he is old enough to breed. However, when you need to dramatically reduce doe numbers, then any doe...

RE: What is the least amount of time

Yes, I would go hunt, just be careful not to spook anything walking in, and be ready to shoot in case you walk up on one.

RE: map help

IMHO It looks like there are three habitat types close to the cut beans at the top of the picture. In my experience, this is a wildlife treasure. You have mature hardwoods, early successional growth,...

RE: Deer and Cigarette Smoke

IMHO Cigarette smoke will clear a field of deer faster than Philip Fulmer can clear a football stadium. I know, because I have experienced it. I was on a paid hunt in TX and had already killed my...

RE: Scrapes and Rubs

Could it be that you have too many does, and not much pressure for the bucks to fight over mating rights? I read somewhere that in my area, we have way too many does and because of this there is less...

RE: Scrapes and Rubs

Question: I found a fallen tree over a small creek whose bark was absolutely shredded. It was a good sized tree. However, I did not find any more rubs in the area. The ground was so covered with...

RE: How old is this Buck & Score??

I would consider that a trophy and shoot him. He looks mature enough and spread outside ears, nice mass. But each hunter has his/her own idea of what constitutes a trophy. If you think it is worthy...

RE: Big Buck Down in KS!

Great looking buck, congratulations... 14 days and counting 'till I get to try to stick one here. We can't grow 'em like that though!

RE: How long to wait after an Iffy hit?

Jimmy S is right. I always wait at least an hour. Inspect the area where the deer was hit. If I find that I hit the deer in the guts, I will wait a few hours before trailing. The deer's circulatory...

RE: If you were given the chance while hunting would you shoot any of them

I will, and have, shot predators while deer hunting. However, it depends on the situation and location and regulations. I consider myself an ethical hunter and try to follow the rules at all times....

RE: What are you gonna shoot at your first day out this year

Meat early in the season, bone later. But it depends on what I see. If I get lucky and big boy shows up....bone baby.

RE: what time do you get to your stand

About an hour before dawn, not sunrise, for morning hunts. For afternoon hunts, 2 - 3 hours before dark, if I don't sit all day.

RE: What caliber would you prefer?

The question did not specify what game animal, or distance, or terrain, so for an all around gun, I would take the 30-06 if I had to choose only one caliber. I normally choose the caliber depending...

Anyone tried harvesting buck pee?

I saw on a huntin' show that some company makes a kit that enables you to harvest pee from a fresh killed deer, any one ever used it? Do you have your own method of harvesting deer urine? Makes a lot...

RE: What food source is the best to hunt during the rut?

I agree with Kevin1, get between doe beds and their food source, if there is an open spot off the field a ways, play the wind and set up there, bucks like to stage in areas with cover near a food...

RE: ask me anything..im full of anweres!!

I thought bucks pooped while walking, but does stand still, so if the poop is in a pile it is probably a doe, while a line of poop is probably a buck. Is this true?

RE: Will a .243 "drop" a deer quickly?

Many people consider the .243 the perfect whitetail gun. Shoot 'em in the neck if you're accurate enough, and they will drop like a stone. There is a spot at the base of the neck, where it connects...

RE: What to eat

Jerky, deer or beef works real good. Keeps you occupied with chewing and is slow to digest so you won't get hungry as often. Bring some water to sip and a good book so you can stay awhile. Carbonated...
