early season questions

season is still young when do you guys start ratteling? How intense? What is your thoughts on grunt calls? long,drawn out grunts, or, a series of shorter grunts?

december decoy use help

we are comming up on 2nd gunseason and I was wondering if any of you have opinions on decoy usage after the peak rut ? Should I use a buck, or, a doe or not at all.

LaSalle Co. for me. Hunting a field edge and overlooking a bedding area. Saw a BIGGGG ont around there last week with a bow. Couldn't get him close enough. Not a problem friday.lol....... good luck...

I live in IL 2 miles from the IL river. people here hunt the river all of the time. I've never, but, from what i've been told. You can legally hunt the river if you are anchored in the "channel"....

if you are new to calling. imo you can't go wrong with the dr-85. one of the easiest calls to blow, and under 20.00.
has enough volume for open water and fits perfectly in the timber holes.

i hunt IL. Our year has been ok. the early part of season was way to warm. no ducks moving south from can &MN. it got good for about a month. then deep freeze. then a 50* week . thawed every thing ....

imo a shogun is the better choice. It's just more versitile. you are not limited to a gun that is only good for large varmit and big game. a shot gun alows you to waterfowl upland game and big game....
