RE: how did everyone get into bowhunting?

For me it was taking my first deer during last years firearm season. I had hunted before both gun and bow but never got a deer, different scenarios just didn't allow me to hunt like I would have...

RE: Keeping your hands warm on stand

For feet I wear 1500gr alpha burlies, wicking base sock with toasty toes stuck under the toe and a pair of wool socks over them. I was frozen off stand too many times to count last year because of...

RE: Keeping your hands warm on stand

I wear jersey gloves and use a hand muff. I use the larger body warmer heat packs, they fit in my gloves without problems and last longer. During colder weather I put one pack on the palm side and...

RE: DNR

Illinois is going to be lucky to still have a DNR with our governor running amok. I think they did ok when they had funding and reasonable input on wildlife conservation and themeans to regulate it....

RE: New member of the family

Sorry to hear about your loss, hopefully your son takes to the new guy as well.

From the looks of him, you're going to need a second budget for food. His feet are pretty big and he looks...

RE: Do you often wonder???

I just had a similar conversation with a friend this past weekend about him hunting. He likes to fish and always talks about wanting to hunt. Loves deer meat and getting out in the woods mushroom...

RE: BBD IL Buck

That would be your Illinois fierarm opening weekend. Not every truck will look like that but not uncommon on the local farms(not deer farms). Our bow tags are print outs that have to be tied/wired...

RE: Close Encounter on November 22

I must be missing something, you have said before that you are living/hunting in Illinois. How are you able to bow hunt during firearm season? Nice buck regardless just curious on how it's possible...

RE: No More Small Bucks!

Not sure if anyone has figured it out or not(I've learned to ignore his superior ramblings), but the initial poster, dopler, goes by harvey261 on other boards and believe he was banned from this one...

I haven't read any of the posts on here but did not want to take away from a great hunt on the other thread.

My first impression on the hit in question was all meat. You can clearly see the...

Granted there is no story behind this hunt and what happened, but wouldn't it be a prime example of the what could go wrong in this thread? http://www.whitetaildeer.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=3053217

RE: self butchering and getting a deer mounted.

First thing I would suggest is to find a taxidermist before season starts, or call a few different ones to see how they prefer it to be prepped for them. Being your first deer and future returning...

RE: Stripped Screw

Not sure what size you are needing but I have fairly good luck on the smaller ones using a torx bit of similar size. The extra ridges and slight taper often are just enough to catch the edges that...

RE: What would you age this buck at?

Unfortunately I didn't even consider age at the time, was in the 50's during the day and only 40's at night that week. Had to put him in an already cramped upright freezer and literally tied the door...

RE: What would you age this buck at?

Taken in Central Illinois, forgot that part.

Definitely think I fudged up with scoring him, never tried before. I came up with 155 on one site w/o deductions and 145 on B&C w/deduc. both as non...

What would you age this buck at?

Throw in a score as well if you'd like, think i may have scored him wrong. It is a shotgun kill, but it's the first deer I have taken as well. Started bowhunting 3 weeks later and managed a button...

RE: I pulled a STUPIE with my bow today (pics)

I hope so, my lesson learned is not to leave the release on the string and let someone else pull it back. I told them not to use the release as not to accidentally dry fire it, due to my own...

RE: I pulled a STUPIE with my bow today (pics)

This happened to my bow tonight, can't get it into a shop until tomorrow at 10 am earliest. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect or do? Is this as bad as a dry fire?
