If you are stuck on black then I dont think there is much to offer from Vortex, I think they only come in green. However I just purchaced the 15X50's (Viper) and am VERY impressed with them thus far....

10 power at least, spend as much as you can. You get what you pay for. My pentax dcf sp's are amazing.

USE A TRIPIOD you will find much more game than if you simply hold them all day!!!!!

Mouthcaller is dead on!!!PENTAX DCF SP'S are awsome.if you don't have much to spend I would recomend the, Leupold wind river mesa's for about 200$ they will compete with those that cost hundreds...

I am thinking about getting a Burris 3-9X40 for my 300wby. I have one (Burris 4.5-14X42)on my other rifle that doen't have as much recoil and love the optics!!!
