I don't know the numbers for sure, but I know around Cody and Jackson the success has gone way down. Mostly because of the wolves and grizzly bears.

Wyoming Moose Hunt

After 30 years I finally got my Wyoming Moose. He had about a 37" spread.
The only shot I had was about 300 yards, quartering away. But with my 300 win mag I felt good about the shot and he only...

Most of the elk I've killed have been in the 100 to 200 yards.
However, I've killed 1 elk at a measured 400 yards with a .300 Win Mag and 1 at a ranged 460 yards with a .338 Win Mag.

I also agree...

The people at the G&F will be more than helpful to tell you where to find them. They really want to reduce the numbers.
The cow are actually harder to find than the bulls.

RE: Field Judge Moose

I just wondered if there were some set features, such as ears, etc., that help judge them on the hoof.

RE: Wyoming Antelope Unit 75!

I've never hunted it, but I've seen a lot of goats when I've driven thru it.
We have had a very wet spring. It has been drying out the last week or so, but there should be good horn growth.

Actually, they changed the rules again this year and they are sold first come, first served. Read the info on the G&F website.

RE: wyoming bison hunt

I had this tag in 2007. You will get one with that number.
The hunt itself is usually pretty simple, but a warm fall like last year will keep most of them in the Park where you can't hunt.
Not...

RE: Help choosing a hunting rifle

I stand by original statement. I shoot a .300WM, I practice, I shoot silhouettes out to 800 yards, but I still wouldn't shoot at a living animal at 600 yards. You, and your students, MIGHT be able to...

RE: Help choosing a hunting rifle

600 yards is way too far to be shooting a 140 grain .270 bullet and expecting a clean kill.
It's people like this that give hunters a bad name.

RE: Help choosing a hunting rifle

It's the hunter, not the gun.
I've killed 5 elk with 30-06, 4 with a .300 Win Mag and 3 with a .338. I currently hunt with 300, but I've thought about going back to the 30-06 as I get older because...
