RE: Going on a Quail Hunt-What do I need to know?

RE: Decline in Pheasants

KSH, I think you're right with regard to the reasons why we're seeing a decrease in pheasant populations. That being said, I think the biggest reason over the last 4 years has been the drought. ...

RE: VERY dry bird season!!

Jason,

In Kansas, the cold had less to do with the poor populations than did the hot weather and drought. My belief is that that the main culprits were the cold wet weather from May 26 to June 11...

RE: VERY dry bird season!!

Most of this part of the country had poor bird numbers. Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Iowa all had poor carryover populations from 2000 due to the very cold winter. This coupled with...

RE: E collars under $200?

No offense Mattito, but if your hunting with a mixed breed, believe that hitting a dog with a newspaper, and believe that 99.9% of dogs can be trained without an e-collar...you really shouldn't be...

RE: Used E Collar

If the collar was only used for a week and the batteries are ok....$200 is a bargin. I've upgraded to "new" technology a couple of times and have sold my old collars for more than $200.

Why did I...

RE: Upland bird's hearing?

Jim,

Pheasants have acute hearing and are aided by pads on their feet that sense vibrations helping them detect the approach of a preditor. They can hear a high pitch dog whistle. I applaud your...

RE: quail

Brandon, quail have 6 different calls. The familiar "bob-white" is a mating call heard only during mating season. If you're lucky, you'll hear quail calling as they come off the roost this time of...
